Five Warriors earn slot on Winter MAC Sportsmanship Team

Five Lycoming College student-athletes earned a slot on the 2016-17 MAC Winter Sportsmanship Team, the conference office in Annville, Pa., announced on Thursday, March 16. Included on the team are junior Alex Newbold (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic, men's basketball), junior Hailey Fricke (Denver, Pa./Garden Spot, women's basketball), junior Andrew Canavan (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell, men's swimming), sophomore Emilie Kramer (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro, women's swimming) and senior Skylar Ebner (Muncy, Pa./Muncy Area, wrestling).

Newbold, a team captain, started all 29 games for the Warriors, averaging 8.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. He posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the team's NCAA Tournament win over Cabrini.

Fricke earns the award for a second time, as the guard stepped into the team's regular rotation as a junior, averaging career highs of 1.9 points and 1.5 rebounds in 22 games.

Canavan, a team captain, set a school-record in the 200-yard backstroke for the third straight year, as he finished third in the race in 1:55.72.

Kramer led the women's team throughout the year, highlighting her season when she earned Second Team All-MAC honors in the 100-yard breaststroke, posting the fourth-fastest time in program history in 1:09.54.

Ebner finished his senior season by winning a career-high 17 matches while finishing third on the team with 12 pins. He also added a 10-8 record in dual meets and he placed second at the RIT Invitational.

The MAC Sportsmanship Teams include a player from each conference school who has demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship through their actions on and off the field during the season. The teams are selected by the players and coaches from their respective schools.
