Lazarich breaks another record as Warriors topple Wildcats, 2-1

2016 Dec 13

It took just 11 games for junior Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) to break a record that has stood 12 years. The forward scored both goals on Wednesday night, Sept. 28, in the Battle for the Lumber to help Lycoming College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Penn College at the Penn College Athletic Field, as she broke the school's single-season record for goals.

Lazarich wasted little time tying the mark, as she blasted a shot just inside the box into the left corner in the fourth minute of the game for her 15th goal of the season to tie the school-record held by Danielle Curry (2004) and Meghenn Jackson (2015).

Penn College (5-4-1 overall) tied the game early in the second half, with Hailee Hartman, the reigning NSCAA Division III Player of the Week, taking a shot off a rebound and hitting the open net.

The Warriors (6-3-2 overall) regrouped after the goal and Lazarich set the school record with her 16th goal of the season by dropping in shot to the right corner in the 70th minute, as she retook the Division III lead in goals, passing Ripon's Paige Birschbach with the score.

Lazarich nearly added an assist in the 90th minute, as a shot hit the top of the crossbar with 10 seconds left to help end Penn College's chances to tie the game.

Junior Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) finished with six saves to earn the win for Lycoming while Penn College's Colleen Bowes also ended with six saves off 15 Lycoming shots.

The Warriors open the MAC Commonwealth season on Saturday, Oct. 1, when they host No. 13/17 Arcadia at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
