Lycoming college students sweep MAC Commonwealth weekly awards

2016 Dec 13

For the second time in their careers, Lycoming College juniors Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) have swept the MAC Commonwealth Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, the conference office in Annville, Pa., announced on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Lazarich scored eight goals over three games to set a bevy of school records. Lazarich scored one goal with a turnaround move and an 18-yarder over a leaping goalie in a tough 2-1 setback to Susquehanna to open the week. The junior followed that with three goals in the first 20 minutes of a 9-0 win over Clarks Summit and then ended the week by tying her own school-record with four goals in a 4-0 win over Pitt-Bradford. She is the first player in schools history to record back-to-back hat tricks and her 36 career goals are now tops in the school's record book. The award is the third in Lazarich's career, as she also earned it on Sept. 22 and Oct. 6, 2014.

Winey posted a 0.80 goals against average, a .905 save percentage and she averaged 6.3 saves per game with 1.5 shutouts in a 2-1 week for the Warriors. The junior opened the year with eight saves, while facing 21 shots in a 2-1 setback to Susquehanna, but rebounded by making one stop in the first half of a 9-0 win over Clarks Summit. She then stopped 10 shots in a 4-0 win over Pitt-Bradford, which is predicted to finish second in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. It was the first time the Warriors posted a 10-save shutout since Jennifer Basch '13 stopped 10 shots in a 0-0 tie with Alvernia in 2012. Winey also earned the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week award on Sept. 22, 2014.

The Warriors get back on the field on Thursday, Sept. 8, when they head to Dickinson for a 6 p.m. game
