Six Warriors earn slots on MAC Spring Sportsmanship Teams

Six Lycoming College student-athletes earned a slot on the 2017 MAC Spring Sportsmanship Team, the conference office in Annville, Pa., announced on Thursday, May 11. Included on the team are senior Joe Pawlowski (Shamong, N.J./Seneca, men's golf), senior Marcus Winn (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove, men's lacrosse), senior Leanne Shaw (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford, women's lacrosse), junior Samantha Fischer (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area, softball), senior Evan Bennetch (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Bible Baptist School, men's tennis) and senior Sophie Herzing (St. Mary's, Pa./Elk County Catholic, women's tennis).

A two-year letterwinner with the golf team, Pawlowski competed in six rounds for the Warriors, developing into one of the team's top five golfers with a 109.5 stroke average. Most notably, Pawlowski also donated bone marrow through Be The Match in the middle of his junior year before joining the golf team.

A four-year letterwinner for men's lacrosse, Winn was a significant contributor in the midfield throughout his career, appearing in 52 career games and posting 23 career groundballs, three goals and two assists. He had one assist in 14 games as a senior.

Shaw, a women's lacrosse team captain, started all 17 games as a senior, serving as one of the team's most important attackers. She posted her second straight 25-point season, finishing with 17 goals, eight assists, 20 groundballs and five caused turnovers.

Fischer developed into Lycoming softball's starting first baseman as a junior, starting 37 of 38 games this season while notching new career highs of 21 hits, nine runs, two doubles and 11 RBIs. Fischer is also a two-time NFCA Scholar Athlete.

Bennetch, a four-year letterwinner for the men's tennis team, moved up in the lineup during his career, from the No. 5 to the No. 3 singles slot, where he won a career-best 11 matches while going 11-9 as a senior. He also posted four wins in doubles action.

Herzing, a four-year letterwinner on the women's tennis team, served as a team captain of the squad this season, leading the team to a school-record 13 wins. She won a career-best seven singles matches and added eight doubles wins.

The MAC Sportsmanship Teams include a player from each conference school who has demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship through their actions on and off the field during the season. The teams are selected by the players and coaches from their respective schools.
