Trio of wrestlers earn Academic All-MAC honors

2017 Jun 20

For the second season in a row, Lycoming College wrestling seniors Nolan Barger (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) and Seth Lansberry (Klingerstown, Pa./Line Mountain) and junior Brandon Conrad (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) each earned slots on the 10-member Academic All-MAC wrestling squad, the conference office in Annville, Pa., announced on Tuesday, June 20.

Barger is the first four-time NWCA Scholar All-American in program history and the first three-time All-American. As a senior, the business marketing and finance major finished 36-8 overall with a team-best 16 pins, while finishing sixth at 165 pounds at the NCAA Championships. He took second at the NCAA Mideast Regional and at the MAC Championships. The senior posted a 139-28 record in his career, finishing his time with the blue and gold second in school history in career wins and second with 47 falls. He was also a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District pick and a three-time Academic All-MAC selection.

Lansberry, who also earned NWCA Scholar All-American honors as an ecology major, took home his second All-American accolades at the NCAA Division III Championships. The senior enjoyed a season for the ages, going 41-2, racking up a school-record 40-match winning streak to start the year. During that time, he won titles at the MAC Championships and the NCAA Mideast Regional before finishing fourth at the NCAA Championships at 149 pounds. Lansberry is just the second Warrior to win 40 matches in a season, while he set a school-record with 13 technical falls. His career record of 145-23 is also a school-best, while his 25 technical falls and 27 major decisions are also records. He is a two-time Academic All-MAC selection.

Conrad, a chemistry major, earned NWCA Scholar All-American and CoSIDA Academic All-American honors for a second straight year after going 31-8 overall and finishing fifth at the NCAA Mideast Regional at 174 pounds. He won his first tournament title in college by taking first at the Messiah Invitational and placed at all three other tournaments the Warriors competed in. Conrad, a two-time regional placewinner, is 80-39 in his career with 24 pins. Conrad is a two-time Academic All-MAC selection and the only male athlete in school history to repeat as an Academic All-American.

The Warriors enjoyed one of the finest seasons in the 24-year career of head coach Roger Crebs, as the team posted an 18-3 dual meet record, finished third at the Budd Whitehill National Duals, won the RIT Invitational, its first tournament win in 12 years, and also hit a high-water mark by taking seventh at the NCAA Mideast Regional. Crebs also became the school's all-time leader in coaching wins during the season, surpassing the mark of 376 set by Budd Whitehill from 1956-93.
